Frequently Asked Questions
About the “world” of “Dice Jockies:”
Q: What games are the Dice Jockies playing?
Mostly they play 2nd Edition Dungeons and Dragons. The 3rd Edition just never seemed right to them. Nick still clings to 1st Edition level names to the point of annoyance. They will also play Call of Cthulhu occasionally and Munchkin, Illuminati and Honor of the Samurai when the DM needs a break.
Q: Is Freddy the only Dungeon Master?
Nick has been known to step into the chair and do well. Wally really doesn't have the patience. Tim has been banned since the double module incident.
Q: The show is set in New Orleans . Why so specific?
While the pilot doesn't reflect it, there are later episodes that play up the New Orleans angle. Also, we are trying to build up an independent film scene in New Orleans (as well as rebuild the city) and every little recognition helps.
Q: This is like a live action version of “Dork Tower” and “Knights of the Dinner Table.” Have you ever read them?
Next question, please!
Q: What characters do the guys play?
Nick likes to play thieves and/or elves and Wally has a thing for high dexterity fighters. But they mix up to keep the game interesting. Tim is almost always Lawful Good for reasons nobody has figured out yet. The few times Freddy plays, he tends to be a dwarf.
Q: The pilot episode is a homophobic. Are you anti-gay?
Definitely not. Yes, the pilot plays out some stereotypes, including the old "gay for being a gamer" one. We are open to any audience, regardless of class, creed, race or sexual orientation. We even welcome gnomosexuals. We do not like actual gnomes, however. Those things are creepy.
About the cast and crew of “Dice Jockies:”
Q: You are all from New Orleans . What school did you go to?
Lewis, Charlie and Bill R all graduated in the same class ( go '86!) from Jesuit. J.D. is a proud Holy Cross grad who will miss the old 9 th Ward school as it moves to Gentilly. Bill D is from Houston and answers “The University of Texas,” as if that really matters.
Q: How many shows are you planning?
We have a bunch of scripts already written and a few planned. We will do this as long as we can. Or until we get sued. So don't sue us. You have no grounds anyway.
Q: Y'all are in a lot of bands.
Thank you for noticing! Lewis and his band Consortium of Genius have been rocking for a solid decade and have also produced an ongoing television series seen now in New Orleans ' Cox Cable public access. Bill R has been playing with Narcissy for a few years (go to their home page and see videos done by Charlie for the band) and they have put out a superior album. Charlie and Bill R have recently started the alt blues band Blue Screw. Bill D has a CD of his comedy available and J.D. will certainly plug stuff here as soon as he can get it made.
Q: What's this about other feature films?
Mojotooth Productions has also produced the documentary “Never A Dull Moment: 20 Years of the Rebirth Brass Band,” available from Whirling Brass and the soon-to-be-completed “Angels Die Slowly,” a gothic-flavored noir set in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Q: Are you available for personal appearances, conventions, kid's parties, etc.?
Maybe. Ask and you'll find out.
