About "Dice Jockies"
Freddy knew he wanted that box the day he saw it in the bookstore in 1982. That big red dragon was calling out “Buy me! Buy me!” Freddy's mom relented and soon the box was his. As soon as he got home, he called his high school friends Wally, Tim and Nick. They all rode their bikes down to Freddy's house and played Dungeons and Dragons for the first time ever.
All those years later, Freddy and the guys have amassed stacks of rule books, modules, scenarios, board games, card games and even a few computer games. They even added a few other people to their D&D group before the great 3 rd Edition schism. Now the original group stands tall in their love of dice and geekery.
Freddy has turned his obsessions into a career. He manages a comic book store that also has gaming equipment. He spends his spare time reading fantasy novels and dreaming of being the evil overlord of some small land.
Wally is the unabashed hipster of the group. As a bartender, he lives mostly by night. He knows people in New Orleans and has connections to all the bars and parties he wants. But every Sunday night, he goes over to Freddy's house and acts out the scenarios with enthusiasm, although sometimes his cynicism sneaks through.
Nick is the technocrat. A computer programmer and database administrator, he rules his own life through logic and charts. He even keeps his slide rule handy if there happens to be no computer. He lives in the suburbs with his girlfriend Cathy who keeps him on a tight leash. Sundays are his male bonding days and he goes at them with gusto.
Tim is the unfortunate office drone. But while his daytime is filled with spreadsheets and e-mail, he spends his nights in front of a huge flat screen watching all the movies he can absorb. While he lives alone, he dreams of finding his own Princess Leia one day.
